Bobby D + shakespeare in shoreditch reviews:
"But with RIFT’s Shakespeare in Shoreditch Festival taking place around Hoxton this week, chances are you’ll see exactly that; ten short, modern interpretations of Shakespeare characters, taking place in unlikely and unexpected venues around Shoreditch – the very place where Shakespeare wrote some of his most exciting, most dangerous plays." -
"The festival aims to re-connect Shakespeare’s vibrant Renaissance London with the contemporary area through promenade performances of newly commissioned work, playwriting workshops and salons with Shakespearean scholars." - Freddie Machin,
"All four plays and the one short film were acted with talent and passion and written with creative skill. Rather than setting the scene in a theatre, we were invited to step into a real-life setting for each performance: for a play set in a pie shop, we went to a pie shop.
This fresh take on immersive street theatre is adventurous and first-rate. Go and see it while you can." -
"Proving that Shoreditch’s hipness is no passing trend, Shakespeare in Shoreditch resurrects the neighbourhood’s dramatic ancestry all the way back to the 17th Century. For 10 days of plays, films, talks and workshops reconnect the place where young Shakespeare penned his immortal verse to its vibrant incarnation today. There must be something in the water…" -

"If only all Shakespearean plays could have been written for this teamof actors." - Kirsty Epps, Audience Club
"their adaptation of this classic had me at times smiling, regularlychuckling and very often laughing uncontrollably." - Alfie Woodcock,Whats on London
"condensed to just 90 minutes which, by the way, manage to capture perfectly the essence of the story" - Olivia Popica, Remotegoat"
"For Whistlestop’s first production, it is very impressive. Artistic Director Leah Cooper with Director Rebecca Hewitt have modernised this classic tale whilst still maintaining the beauty of the language. Th ecast play the meaning of the text clearly, making the story asaccessible and comedic today as I’m sure it was 400 odd years ago andif you’re looking for a midsummer’s evening of entertainment, I suggest you look no further." - Amy Lawrence, Bargain Theatreland

"You enter the space and you know you have entered an environment for an enjoyable evening (I won’t spoil it here, you’ll have to go yourself to find out how!), as the play begins you are met by costumes and characters you don’t have to look far back in history to find, and then the words commence and you’re immersed in classic text spoken with such clarity, emphasis and vigour by all actors." - Arts Award Magazine
"It is great to see a company taking a vibrant, yet traditional, approach to Shakespeare. Their work deserves to be seen by many more people." - Robert Pearce, Bargain Theatreland
"this is acheived, in my opinion, by an extraordinarily talented cast, that bring much energy, passion, and phyiscal expression to the piece." - Arts Award Magazine
